A One Name Study | |
|
This one name study concentrates on the genealogy of the name Duckhouse which appears to be centred in the English West Midlands. Duckhouses have now spread out all over England with extensive branches in South Wales and elsewhere. The name is subject to some variation, occurring as Duckas, Duckers and other similar variants, as well as being mis-transcribed as Duckhurst, Duckham, Dukes etc. in some places. I have concentrated on the Duckhouse form and have not researched any of the other variants although it may be beneficial to do so. (As an aside, I have found that FamilySearch does not show Duckas if you search for Duckhouse and the other way round.) My motivation in doing this study was that in my personal family history research I had not been able to find the maiden name of Elizabeth, mother of my great great grandmother (Ruth Duckhouse born 1808 near Stafford). I am pleased to say that because of this study I believe I have succeeded in doing that. That is not to say the study is complete – far from it - and I’m sure there are still errors remaining. At the time of writing, I have just over 1000 people in my database, including more than 200 wives (who took the name) and over 200 husbands (who married Duckhouse women). However there are around 200 people that I haven’t been able to attach to any tree. If you have any Duckhouses in your tree, please do join the study. The main branch (over 600 people) goes back to Samuel Duckhouse who married Mary Mills in Colwich near Stafford in 1782. Another branch descends from John Duckhouse who married Ann Bill in Stafford in 1804. Also in Stafford is Joseph Duckhouse who married Ann Padmore in 1813. The links between these branches have yet to emerge, as has any link to various 18th century Duckas baptisms in Malpas in Cheshire. More research is needed – can you help? There are several interesting Duckhouses:
There are a few emigrations:
I have now uploaded my main index to the Duckhouses, and another index to their spouses. Samuel and his descendants are shown on this summary and on this tree. All these pages do not show potentially living people (those born after 1917). There are currently some of Samuel's descendants on Wikitree but there are a lot more that I haven’t moved across from my database yet. This is going to take some time – are you able to assist?. There are many puzzles within the study - some are mentioned in my page Duckhouse Dilemmas If you have any questions, have found mistakes or would just like to make contact, please do contact me. |
